We have about a week to spend somewhere, before we have to be in Venice on Oct 15th. I was considering the Bernina Express as my gateway into Italy. Prior to that, we were thinking of flying in Germany (no clue where to go or what to see) possibly include Vienna and Salzburg. How much time is needed to see these places...anyone have any suggestions for a cool week to spend in this area?
Kim, There are lots of possibilities. You could (for example) fly inbound to Zürich and then spend a few days in Lucerne, take the train to Chur and then the Bernina Express to Tirano. Then travel by regular train to Varenna on Lago di Como and spend a few days there, before heading for Venice. This is only one possibility and I'm sure the others will have lots to add. Happy travels!
We originally planned to fly into Zurich on the 13th. However, since we are flying on air miles, we want to take advantage of flying for "free" and work in another country, area we haven't been to before, that makes sense before the start of our month in Italy. We have already been to France/Belgium/Amsterdam and England. Thought maybe Germany would be an easy place to explore prior to the real start of our trip. We are actually open to going anywhere that is logical. Thanks again for all input!!!
