Trip from London to Frankfurt-Beligium and Holland possible?

We are a family of 4 with 2 older boys. We have a 10 day trip in June and are spending 4 nights in London then taking the Eurostar to Belgium. We don't really have a plan yet. We just know we have to leave from Frankfurt. Is it possible to fit in Belgium, Holland and Northern Germany on the 6 nights left? Has anyone done this and what stops are recommended?

I think you are overstretching your itinerary too much. While you certainly can travel between points in those areas in 6 days, that would make it more a transportation-based vacation than anything else. I'd cut either Netherlands or Northern Germany from your itinerary, and split the 6 days in just two different hotels (at most a third near the airport for your last night).

Thanks I was starting to think that. So wondering if anyone has a suggestion about what to cut out? Do I skip Holland and see Cologne and Frankfurt. Or do we skip Germany and do Holland? Kind of leaning toward Holland. I think leaving from Frankfurt is our only option.

I would be useful to know how old the boys are, and whether this is the family's first trip to Europe. Indeed, three countries are plenty for ten days (does that include the air travel days?) Since Belgium is well-connected to Cologne, I'd go there by train, buying un-changeable tickets online immediately to save money. http://www.bahn.com/ Of course you enter "Ireland" as your home country, so you are not redirected to RailEurope, but stay on the DB site. I think you have too little time to stop enroute at Aachen (Aix La Chapelle), which the train goes right through. There are dozens of discussions on this board about the Rhine & Mosel Rivers (search box top right), and you can easily end up in Frankfurt. I understand Frankfurt has a nice medieval town just outside, but I haven't been there. You'll have to wait for another trip to see Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, or the Black Forest.

The boys are 11 and 14 and this will be their fourth trip to europe. They are pretty good travelers, but I do agree 3 countries is ideal.

Hi, How far north in Germany, ie., north of Frankfurt? Both Frankfurt and Cologne are certainly worthy of your time if they are first time visits to those cities. Your boys are good travelers, having been in Europe 4 times...fantastic. They'll be able to do this trip easily. My choice is to skip Holland considering your time limit.

Well, I was just trying to see the best route if we took the Eurostar into Belgium and ended up in Frankfurt where we leave from. Thanks so much everyone for all the advice.
