My husband and I will be traveling to Trinte sur Mer in September for a family friend's wedding. We would like to visit the surrounding areas before the wedding date. I would like to include Mont St. Michel, Dinan and Carnac. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My one suggestion is to definitely stay overnight on the island at Mt S Michel. It is strikingly beautiful at night. And if the monastic community is in residence, the liturgies are some of the most beautiful I've attended. (for liturgical schedule, see the website for the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem) Book really early to get the most reasonable accomidations, but assume it's going to be expensive and the accomidations will be old and simple. I booked late (maybe a couple of months ahead for a fall trip) and spent the most I've ever spent on a hotel in Europe, but it was still worth it. Also, pack light and/or stay at a hotel very near the gate into town. You'll be dragging your luggage to your hotel and then probably up stairs to your room, and many of the hotels are up steep paths and stepped lanes. I stayed at la Mere Poulard, which has the advantage of being steps from the entrance to the mont, and the reception staff carried by suitcase up the stairs.
