One day?? That's a quick trip, but if I were advising, I would say skip the guided tour and ask directions to 1) The Roman baths...Take some photos and walk about. 2) Emperor Constantin's Black Gate...Take some photos and get a snack at the restaurant nearby. 3) More photos at the Romanische Bruecke (Roman bridge) across the Mosel; it's a rebuild, since we bombed it in WWII, but it's spittin' image of the original built by Roman engineers. 4) Head up the mountain across river from Trier and kick back to enjoy the city below (and the photo op) over a ham, cheese and pickle sandwich while contemplating the grapes who gave their lives for the mosel wine you are enjoying. Note: Either use "the force" or ask directions to find that tasteful restaurant in the clouds. If Numbers 1 - 4 don't do it for you, forget it and spend the day on a Mosel riverboat, go up on the roof with the oompah
band and buy a couple bottles of mosel white wine. Go easy on the wine since there are beautiful vineyards on the hillsides and castle ruinstake some photos!

We stayed in Trier for 4 nights and took a cruise down the Moselle River and a guided city tour in a small van. We also walked all over the town. Day tripped and took a city bus tour of Luxembourg City and visited the American Cemetary outside of LC where General Patton is buried. There is so much to see in Trier. We really loved it. Do not miss the Landsmuseum. http://www.german-way.com/germany-trier.html It is easy walking as there are no hills in the old town and everything to see is within walking distance. Enjoy!
