My first time in France and want to visit Annecy/Chamonix area and drive to Provence before returning east of Trento Italy but only have 5 days total. With so many choices in Provence, does anyone have suggestions for my first visit?

Given your limited timeframe, might I recommend that you not try to "do" so many destinations? The French Alps is a wonderful region, with Annency worthy of a night's stay (the abundance of daytrippers can make the place seem tourist-trampled, but evenings are terrific), and Chamonix requires a couple overnights, in case day one features inclement weather (I'm assuming you'll want to "scale" Mount Blanc).
With only two days` remaining, you might be better suited to spending that time reasonably close to the French Alps, such as Burgundy (Beaune, Dijon) or Lake Geneva (Lausanne, Switzerland) than making the long haul to Provence. The many pleasures of Provence are undeniable, but they might be postponed until you have more time; and besides, there are countless touristic pleasures to be had much closer to the French Alps.
