Hi. I'm planning a visit to my sister 9-12-12 thru 9-24-12. I haven't been to Germany for 9 years. In my search for airfares, I was wondering if I should look for lower fares closer to my departure date or if I should select one now or in the near future. Any advice would be so welcome! Thanks.

Hi Lorie. Nobody knows for sure. Don't rush, do checking yourself over the next few weeks. Also check +/- a day or two on each end, and nearby cities to give you a better feel. Fares will vary over time up and down; buy when comfortable based on your research.

Have you tried Skyscanner, Momondo and Swoodoo? Really hard to predict these days. Also check for low cost flights on Air Berlin, Condor and Air Transat (on their resp. websites). Also maybe a combination of a cheap US domestic flight to JFK and a Singapore Airlines A380 flight to Frankfurt might end up being the best deal.

Yikes! I'm leaving out of Wi and then to Chicago > Munich and my fare so far is only 1182.00.

It's allot either way. I'm hoping it will go down a little anyway. Maybe I should book sooner than later. Geez this is such a game.

I'm seeing 1193 to frankfurt right now, that's on Kayak. Priceline seems to be a bit lower. Frankfurt 1173 one stop but 14 hours. 2 hour layover in Chicago. No 1 stops to Munich at the moment....
