Travelling to Chamonix

Hi there,
We are going to Chamonix in late May. I'm wondering what is the best way to get there via train?
Thanks!

I forgot to mention that we'll be travelling from Paris. I heard there is an overnight train from Paris, but can't find any info on that. I was checking raileurope.ca. Any tips would be wonderful! thanks!

The RailEurope timetables are incomplete, particularly when it comes to routes that require several connections.

The best train timetable site for all of Europe is www.bahn.de. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

There is night train service for a good share of the way. You can take a night train to St-Gervais-les-Bains and a regional train from there to Chamonix. Or if you want to get to Chamonix an hour sooner, you can get off the night train in Annecy and take three regional trains from there to Chamonix. Connection times are short on those regional trains. Personally, I'd choose making only the one change. Much less of a hassle with luggage.

We traversed on train from Murren to Chamonix. Was a long day but the ride was stunning in its beauty. Actually for a while we were on a clog-like train. One rail is what it traveled on. Very high degree ascent and was slow but the scenery was second to none. Chamonix is really a neat little place. Rode the main cable car up to 12K+ feet. It was stunning up there. Started in the fog and ended up in the sunshine. Cold for a June day but a must do. GREAT hiking trails abound there. And the restaurants are very good/numerous. Have a blast.
