I have a friend who will be in Olzanac France with her husband and two boys, aged 5 and 7, for 10 days at the end of March. Does anyone have any suggestions for things the kids might enjoy? They are pretty well-rounded and enjoy everything from art to sports. thanks! Joanne
Joanne, I noticed that no one had replied to you yet. Do you mean Olonzac, not far from Narbonne and Carcassonne?
Yes, that was my bad spelling! I do mean Olonzac.
The small town of Minerve (Cathars) is not far, as is the canal du midi at Homps. There are Roman ruins in and around Narbonne and, of course, there is Carcassonne itself.
For a truly different experience, in Berlou (just north of Beziers) there is a donkey farm that offers hiking experiences with a donkey (or two) for the kids. These randonnées are very popular for French families with kids and are offered all over France. Donkeys in France are often referred to with great affection as "grosses peluches" (big stuffed toys) or "longues oreilles" (big ears). In Berlou, the farm is called Aux Petits Sabots, and is set in the middle of vineyards: http://www.auxpetitssabots.com/ They even have a gypsy wagon that sleeps 4 for an overnight at the farm!
Unfortunately, the website is in French only, but the owner will be able to respond in English, her name is Dorothée Bricks.
