Traveling via Easy Jet in Europe

Does anyone have any experience with flying Easy Jet within Europe? I am particularly interested in knowing about their luggage restrictions and how closely they monitor carry on luggage. We plan to carry on 1 bag each which are within their stated acceptable dimensions of 22"x17"x10". In addition my wife will take her purse and I will carry a small satchel (the size of a purse). Does anyone see any problem with these being denied as carry on luggage? I went on line to the Easy Jet website to book a flight from Barcelona to Paris and I got confused when I was recording my flight info. Throughout the check out I was continually being asked to take the 1/2 price prepaid luggage fee (although they indicate you are allowed to take 1 bag per person). Your comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. George

George,

The rules for luggage at EasyJet are somewhat standard with all the Euro budget airlines. As the others have mentioned, these charges are a major source of revenue for them. RyanAir is one of the worst for 'nicking' passengers with extra charges for just about everything.

Cheers!

My 22" RS wheeled bag had to be checked on EasyJet. On the plus side, your checked bag is quite likely to arrive when and where you arrive. They are not processing a dozen planes at the same time so your luggage likely will be put on the correct plane.

One bag is one bag..not one bag and a small bag/purse.

The reason they keep asking you about checked bag is this is how they make money. And, if you do it when booking you save money.

The dimensions Easyjet gives is for the entire bag. If it is a wheeled bag, that includes wheels and handles. The dimensions usually given for that type of bag do not include the wheels and handles.

Most 22" wheeled bags are actually 24-25 inches and will not be allowed.

Yep, as others said, they're quite strict - count on it (that's how they make their money - checking something at the last minute is shockingly expensive).

The way to get your 1 standard-sized carry on and your little satchel on the plane is simple: leave room for the satchel INSIDE you larger bag, and put it in there.

I took 2 EasyJet flights last summer. I had my 19" carry on with me. During boarding, it was a bit slow to get onto the plane since the gate agents were not only checking boarding passes but if they think your baggage is not within the size requirements, they will have you put your luggage in this luggage checker bin. If it fits, you can carry it on. If not, you'll have to pay to check it in.
