My husband, nephew and I are traveling 4/13-/4/24 in Spain we would like to see Barcelona, Madrid and Southern Spain Sevilla, Cordoba and Grannada
I am conerned about the crowds in Sevilla/Southern Spain Easter week and am wondering if we should fly directly there first. Crowds and religous processions are not our favorite things
Sevilla is packed during Easter week & most hotels have a 4 night minimum. If you don't like crowds, you better go there first. The processions are amazing & you can see them in other locales without the crowds.
I am leaving Spain, just as you are arriving, and I too am traveling with my family! We are going to Spain for the first time, Barcelona & Seville, between 4/3 and 4/12, and I specifically planned the trip to avoid Seville during Holy Week, which may start on 4/17 (Palm Sunday). You will want to investigate when the holy week/semana santa festivities occur, and yes I would go to Seville prior to semana santa to avoid the crowds-room prices in hotels & apartments double during that week from what I could see, and I had not thought about minimum nights required. Look at hotel websites and let that be your guide, but I would think that flying to Seville (through Madrid?) will be your first stop on your trip. I understand Toledo also has similar (but not as extensive) processions during Holy Week. Also, you might want to investigate what the tradition is re: what closes down on Good Friday - Easter Sunday ( 4/22-4/24) so that you are sure to visit your favorite sites/stores/mueseums on days that they are not shut down. Good Friday is a very important day in some Catholic countries, even in the US many businesses are closed on this day; not sure about Spain, but I would investigate. Enjoy your vacation! SuzieeQQ
