2 for 6 days then a 3rd to eight days are traveling Marseille, Aixen Provence, Avignon, antibes, Nice, Eze and want to know if it is best to rent a car or just to train in and out of these places. We leave in October, planning a quick trip and need some help deciding. Would appreciate any help and ideas for lodging.

All those places are on the main rail lines, except for Eze (assuming you mean Eze-le-Village). Eze cannot be reached by train but can be reached by bus from Nice. The standard advice given here is 1) train between the big cities/towns of Provence, including Avignon, Aix, and Marseille; 2) rental to explore the Provence countryside; 3) Marseilles to Nice by train; and 4) Antibes is usually reached by train as a day trip from Nice.
