Traveling in Morocco with kids

I'm planning to include Morocco in my Summer trip with my three kids (6,8,9) Could anyone recommend an itinerary and any reasonable hotels. I'm thinking we will be there for 2 o 3 days.

What part of Morocco will you be staying in? Or have you not decided yet?

Hi,

I am thinking about going to Rabat and Fez or possibly going all the way to Marrakech. I am not sure yet. I really would like to experience that part of the world with my kids, but I am a little unsure about safety. Up to this moment I am not sure if my husband will come with us because of his work, but reading Rick's book really makes me want to go

We did this with our kids about 4 years ago when they were 12 and 5. We started in Gibraltar, then took the ferry across to Tangiers. We went straight to Fez and from there went to Casablanca with a side trip to Rabat. Our final stop was Marrakech.

I would definitely recommend Marrakeck - it is a nice place with lots of exotic stuff. The medina of Fez was mind blowing and can be intimidating if doing it on your own since is consists of about 9000 alleys and lanes and one will get lost very quickly. However, to me this is the exciting part - to be able to navigate on one's one with help from the locals.

If you are only spending 2-3 days, then you will need to decide on just one place. I can't recommend any reasonable hotels since we stayed at the western chains (Sheraton, Hyatt) using points so didn't actually have to pay.

I stayed in Marrakech for 3 nights (well 2 really, 1 was outside of Zagora for a camel trek). I stayed at the Riad Al Faras. It was a really nice place with good reviews although slightly pricey. We found another place for our last night there, but I will have to look at my stuff to find the name.

The food was absolutely amazing there. The whole region was very breath-taking and interesting. The souks were a whole other world experience for me & I started getting into the haggling thing. I think the kids would be okay IF they are good about not running off. It is VERY easy to get disoriented in the area - and while it is fun to figure your way out I doubt it would be if you lost a child.

I'm not sure if you would have enough time to go down to Marrakech though. I would concentrate on one or maybe 2 cities for only 2-3 days. I didn't take one, but apparently the trains aren't the best down there. I flew into Marrakech and back out through RyanAir.
