Traveling in Germany

Two of my friends and I are extending a holy land trip 4 days. We fly into and out of Frankfurt. We want to visit Fussen, Rothenberg, and Nuermberg. I'd like to know the best route, order and means of transportation to take. Travel times between locales would also be helpful. I would also like recommendations on bed and breakfasts to stay in and possibly a castle that you can stay in overnight.
I'd also appreciate your pick of places to visit, Thank you!

Use the German Rail (Bahn) website to find connections and travel times. "Fussen" is actually spelled Füssen or Fuessen, but the Bahn's ignorance algorithm should offer the correct stop, Füssen Bhf, if you use Fussen. Also, "Nuermberg" should be Nürnberg or Nuernberg. The Bahn won't recognise "Nuermberg" properly; spell it Nuernberg and accept Nürnberg Hbf. Finally, do not use Rothenberg. You won't get the right place. It's Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

I guess if you drew the letter "T" with the left of the top time being Frankfurt, the middle being Rothenberg and the right end of the top being Nürnberg , then all the way at the bottom of the up and down line would be Fuessen. Greatly simplified, but I hope you get the idea. I'd always vote for a rental car, the roads are great, and you have the freedom to go when and where you want. With 3 people it might even be cheaper. A GPS and a map are also good ideas – the GPS to get into or around cities and a map so you have a general idea just in case the GPS gets goofy. But as pointed out, German train service is also very good. The Frankfurt-Rothenberg-Fuessen route is what is known as "The Romantic Road," a tourist route through some amazing towns and villages. I read somewhere there used to be a bus that did it in 10 or 12 hours – but that's with lots of stops. By European standards it a sizeable distance.
All the places would be worth a visit. Germany and especially Bavaria is wonderful any time of year. To get more info and some pictures just type www., the place name, followed by .de and you'll get the official town website with lots of information.
