Traveling in a loop through Provence.

Can you recommend an itinerary for a 7 night loop through Provence in June? We will already have been in Nice/Monaco for 3 nights and will spend a last night in Nice again before we fly out. Also, Day 5 will be June 21st when there are many music festivals, so we hope to spend the day enjoying the music. Any suggestions?

Lauren, everyone has their favorites. I'll just make some general suggestions. First, I'd stay in one or perhaps two locations only, and use them as bases for day trips. If your 7 days are Saturday to Saturday and you stay in one place, you can rent lodgings, which may be less expensive and/or entail special amenities. There are many fine places to stay. I would look generally around the Rhone valley in the area around Arles, Avignon, and Nimes, for a good base location. For a second stay, you might consider several nights in the Luberon. But things are not so far apart that you can't visit the Luberon villages as a day trip, or several day trips, from Arles or St. Remy.

from your question, it looks like you only have 3 days extra because you're staying 3 nights in nice and 1 more at the last day. we stayed in avignon for 3 wks in 2009. it was a central location. we took the bus to pont du gare to see the aqueduct, then a bus to nimes to see some roman sights (arena, maison carree, tour magne), all this in one day. another day, we took a tour of les baux and gordes (hilltowns). another day, we took the bus to aix-en-provence. in avignon itself, there is the palais des papes, the pont st benezet on the rhone, a park across the rhone where you can laze around, another city across called villeneuve. you could easily spend 3 days here.
