traveling from Stuttgart to Aix-en-Provence

I have to get from Stuttgart, Germany to Aix-en-Provence, France. I have planned 2 days to make the trip.
I have considered 2 choices : Go through Switzerland including Zurich & Geneva- spend the night in Geneva and then go on to Aix the next morning. The only train to Aix is at 6:40 am that will get me there at 9:30 am.

OR: Take the new TGV EAST from Stuttgart through Karlsruhl, Strasbourg and spend the night in Colmar. Then take the TGV again into Aix the next morning at 9:50. It gets me to Aix by about 3 pm.
.
The Northern route with the TGV through Colmar seems to be easier, quicker. But I don't want to miss seeing the scenery in Switzerland. It'd my first trip to Europe.
I need some input from experienced travelers!!
Thanks

I used the train recently to travel to Aix (although within France itself)- as with Avignon, there are two different stations depending on whether you use the TGV or not, so if you use the TGV (it's located further out) you need to also factor in time for the bus (or taxi) to your destination, if it is in the city. For example, In Avignon, I was lucky and just caught that "shuttle" bus with seconds to spare- otherwise I would've had to wait another hour...also, Marseilles as a tranfer point was almost always paired with Aix. My other suggestion is to see if you can get another option(s) trying Marseilles...then check Marseilles to Aix separately. (It was usually a bus, but it went back and forth quite often.) I hope that helps, a little, until you hear from someone whose done just what you want to do!
