Traveling from San Sebastian to Nice

Hello! I was wondering what the most efficient (cheapest, quickest) way is to get from San Sebastian, Spain to Nice, France? Are there other airports nearby each place to find flights out of/ into? What about speedy trains? THANKS!!

Try Bilbao for San Sebastian. Try Nice for Nice.

Thank you!
Would you happen to know of an overnight train from San Sebastian area to Nice area?? Or have any idea what site for finding tickets would be best?

I'm not a train guy, but getting around the western end of the Pyrenees has historically been a bear due the choke point around Irun/Hendaye. Wild guess is twenty hours. I've no idea how to figure the exact time or approximate cost. Somebody else can do better, but I'm probably pretty close.

Vueling.com flies out of Bilbao and they may well fly to Nice. Pretty cheap flights and might be cheaper than the train. Nice Airport is not far from the center of the city and the bus to Nice is really cheap. If you train, maybe Bilbao to Girona or even Barcelona for a fast train. Not sure about overnights. I would try renfe.com, the Spanish train website.

Hey Hanna! Train is not particularly popular in San Sebastian area. As an alternative to flying as proposed by others, you could travel by bus. Check www.alsa.es/en. Not sure it fits your plans/likes, but there's a night bus (no couchette, off course!) leaving San Sebastian at 00:30 and arriving at Nice (Niza) at 14:00, total duration 13:30 hours, one way € 74. Happy travels!

SNCF shows an Intercites night train from Biarritz to Nice, departing at 7 p.m. and taking 12 hours. http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/ You may have to struggle with this new site to avoid the dreaded RailEurope bump. You will also need to get from San Sebastian to Biarritz, a short distance but with awkward connections. In fact, train travel between Spain and France is a wrangle on both the east and the west sides of these two trading partners. Simple answer: Fly from Bilbao. That also gives you a good excuse to spend a day or two in this very worthwhile Basque city. Or there is an hourly bus service from San Sebastian to the airport: http://www.aena-aeropuertos.es/csee/Satellite/Aeropuerto-Bilbao/en/Page/1237554477328//Public-transport.html
Even by air you probably will have to make a connection as www.skyscanner.com shows no non-stops to Nice. Vueling's departures are either early morning or late evening www.vueling.com
