I been thinking to rent a car from frankfourt airport and go to baden baden for 3 days after that to zellamsee and this going to be about 7 hours in the road which is way to far .. Any suggestion to stop in some place between .. ? After that am going to salzburg and the way back i will stop in munich for 2 days and drive to frankfort again .. Please can somebody help me with the plan
I would alter your plan for the first day. You will arrive jet lagged as hell, and have to drive close to 3 hours on one of the worst stretches of the German Autobahn network. Between around Heidelberg to Freiburg, The traffic right now goes from one jam ("Stau") to another because of an obscene amount of road construction. Consider taking the train, or if you want the spa experience of Baden-Baden, drive to one of the mineral resorts closer to Frankfurt, like Wiesbaden, Bad Homburg or Königstein. I personally think these are far more interesting towns than Baden-Baden, but others may disagree. If you go for Baden-Baden, a good half way point between there and Zell am See would be one of the towns on the Bodensee, such as Lindau or Friedrichshafen. Also, here's another traffic alert. If you planned to drive to Zell am See via the Autobahn route by Bregentz, there is road construction right now on one of the tunnels. Traffic all but slows to a stop during the day and you crawl for several kilometers. Leaving the Autobahn doesn't help, because all the feeder roads are choked as well. It's a little worse for north-bound traffic, however.
First, there are trains in 1½-2½ hr from FRA to Baden-Baden, and once you get to Baden-Baden, there are buses to all over town. You shouldn't need a car there. At least wait until you're ready and save 3 days car rental. As far as Baden-Baden to Zell am See, there are trains via Munich and Salzburg, so I would suggest stopping in one of those towns. If you go to Salzburg for the night, you can get an advance purchase, 2nd cl, Saving Fare ticket online from the Bahn for as low as €49 for two people. To get the best price, you need to purchase well in advance, as much as 92 days, on the German Rail (Bahn) website. From Salzburg to Zell am See is a hour and a half trip with one or no changes. The fare is €21,50/person in 2nd cl., but if you use only regional trains, you can use a €28 Einfach Raus ticket for both of you from Salzburg to Zell. Since you are apparently coming back through Salzburg and Munich, you might consider going to Zell by way of Bodensee, Lindau, and the Tirol. Take the train from Baden-Baden via the Schwarzwaldbahn to Rudolfzell, then along the lake via Friedrichshaven to Lindau. Spend the night in Lindau, then go through the Tirol via Feldkirch and Innsbruck to Zell am See.
