We are flying into Charles de Galle airport early in the morning and want to see Paris for the day before we take the train to venice that night. What is the best way to get to the train station that morning? we want to leave our luggage at the lockers at the train station first before going to the eiffel tower.
cheapest option: RER B > RER A > Gare de Lyon RER B > RER D > Gare de Lyon This site will help you plan on public transport: http://www.ratp.fr/plan-interactif/carteidf.php?lang=uk This site takes you to different options and step by step on how to use them along with photos:

The Air France bus, (Cars de Air France) goes from CDG to Gare de Lyon. Take Line 4. See the link below. I have taken this bus, it is very good. Big comfortable bus, with luggage storage below - relaxing trip into town and you don't have to deal with taking the metro with luggage after a long flight. Since one line goes directly to Gare de Lyon I highly recommend it. http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/en-GB/Passagers/Access-maps-car-parks/Paris-CDG/Access/public-transport/paris-cdg-car-air-france.htm?wysistatpr=ads_moteur-synomia_gb
Bought at CDG, a ticket for Air France bus #4 to Gare de Lyon costs €16.50. Booked online, it costs €15.00. A one day, zone 1-5 Paris Visite pass costs €20.50. It will cover your ride on the RER from CDG to Paris and any RER, metro, or bus rides you take the rest of the day. It also will be good for the Montmartre funiculaire that goes to Sacre-Coeur. If you're packing light, buy Paris Visite passes at CDG and take the RER to Gare de Lyon. If you aren't, take the Air France bus. Buy a ten-ticket carnet (€12.70) at Gare de Lyon to get around the rest of the day and share the tickets. Each ticket will be good anywhere the metro goes (some lines end in zone 3) and on the RER in zone 1 (all of central Paris) and provides unlimited transfers until you exit the system. Each ticket provides for bus transfers up to 90 minutes after boarding the first bus, but you cannot transfer between metro and bus on a single ticket. Tickets from carnets are also good on the Montmartre funiculaire. If you take the Air France bus to Gare de Lyon and then plan to literally hop all over Paris after you drop off your bags, you'll use up the tickets in a carnet rather quickly. In that case you'll do better buying two zone 1-2 Mobilis passes (€6.40/pass) at Gare de Lyon so you can take as many rides as you wish.
Take the RER B and transfer to Line A at Chatelet. The two platforms you need are very close to each other. With only one day in Paris, I would recommend a HO/HO bus instead of riding underground in the Metro all day. But if you do want to bop around via the Metro, the one day Paris Visite pass might be your most economical option.
once you get there you may be interested in checking out http://www.batobus.com/english/index.htm sort of hop on/hop off boat cruise on the Seine.
Yes luggage can be stored at Gare de Lyon. Many SNCF stations do not offer this service.
