We have a car. Dont want to miss the cute towns. Anyone have any ideas about a route and where to stop? Where to stay and the best bnbs. We have lots of time to get to Valencia. Cant seem to find info in my Rick Steves Spain 2013. Thank you.
Set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. The good news is that you can tape the gas pedal down and get it done and overwith in three hours since there's no traffic on the freeway. You'd have to hook rubber bands to the steering wheel to keep you on the road when you nod off. It's that boring. Optionally, you could duck in and take the coastal roads and enjoy looking at the Med on one side and wall-to-wall condos on the other. Places you find to eat will serve neato microwave junk that people in the condos eat. Even the towns that have little harbors/marinas are duds. Neither of the two Natural Parks along the way offer much of interest either. The only exception would be Castellon, but when you get there you're almost to Valencia anyway. I've spent a lot of time in the far beyonds of Spain that don't make it into any guidebooks. This stretch just doesn't hack it.
RETHINK: I was focused on the coast. Ducking inland a bit, Miravet is a castle and village on a hill above a river. A real winner.
