Hi, My family will be staying in Aix en Provence this July for two weeks before traveling to Amboise in the Loire Valley. We are renting a car while we're in Aix, and I'm wondering if we can ditch the car and take a train to Amboise (or close to Amboise). So far, I haven't seen a train schedule that goes that route. Additionally, if we drive, I'd like to break the trip up and stay one night along the way. Any recommendations? I'm looking for a town that would be along the most direct driving route to Amboise. Thanks for any help and feedback! Susie
All trains go through Paris. Despite that, the train will be quicker than driving because the train is so very, very fast. There is even a direct train that bypasses Paris and makes the trip in 4-1/2 hours. If are willing to budget the time for a leisurely road trip, driving could be a great adventure. If you want to click your ruby slippers and teleport to Amboise, the train is your best bet. To see the train schedule go to this web site and look for the routes from Aix-en-Provence TGV to St-Pierre-des-Corps (TGV in Amboise).
Adam, Thanks so much for your help! I think we've decided on the train. Thanks so much for including the link to the the train schedule - much appreciated!! Susie
