We now probably have an extra day to fool with. We were going to go by train from Venice to Innsbruck, but if we have an extra day, should we (can we) go directly into Switzerland for a day or Germany or another place in Austria from Venice before traveling to Innsbruck? Ideas?
If you haven't been to Salzburg, then it would be a good choice. The train ride from Venice has some spectacular scenery, and, again, from Salzburg to Innsbruck is just as good or better.
Hi Doreen,
How about Bolzano/Bozen? The town is very nice and the "Ice Man" exhibit is excellent!

Another beautiful place is Brixen/Bressanone. Absolutely wonderful old town with a very large pedestrian zone. We spent an entire day here 2 years ago and loved it. The Diocesan Museum Brixen was fantastic, as is just sitting an outdoor cafe or walking the old town.
Both are on the way from Venice to Innsbruck.

Verona is also on the way to the Brenner Pass and Innsbruck. We really liked it, it has great Roman and early medieval sites to visit. We skipped the Romeo and Juliet stuff since it's fictional but found Verona a surprisingly good visit.
I also love Salzburg but it might be a little out of the way. You will have to guage whether it's too much trouble. If you have never been to Salzburg, I would pick that first.
Thanks for the suggestions. We are going to go on to Salzburg, Hallstatt and Vienna after Innsbruck, We were just wondering about perhaps going into Munich, Zurich or someplace else before Innsbruck.
