I am meeting my daughter in April 2010. We have 8 days. Will it be feasible for us to do Barcelona and parts of Provence in that amount of time? What cities in Provence do you recommend? Thanks, Deb

I think you can have a taste, if those two destinations are your priority.
For a short stay in Provence, I'd base in Arles and visit places on the bus and rail lines, including Avignon. Or rent a car and be sure to hit Les Baux and the Pont du Gard as well.
To maximize time on the ground, fly open jaw. You might also investigate flights between Barcelona and Marseilles or even Avignon. The train trip is lengthy, and will eat up one of your 8 days. Note the trips from Provence to Barcelona are a bit shorter than those running the other way.
I think this sounds like a fun itinerary, though perhaps not the most logistically efficient one.
