Travel in Paris - Gare Du Nord to Rue de Cler

Could someone give me info on the best mode of transportation (other than taxi) to get me from the Paris Gare du Nord International railstation to Rue de Cler in Paris. I need to know which mode to take (i.e. bus, subway, etc.) and which lines to take and where to switch lines. Thanks for your help.

Rather than give step-by-step instructions (which you could easily forget or lose), just remember this one Metro station name- Ecole Militaire. When you arrive at Gare du Nord in Paris, look at a Metro map (you'll see them everywhere), and simply connect the dots between Gare du Nord and Ecole Militaire. Trust me, those maps are nearly idiot-proof.

To be precise, it's rue Cler, not rue de Cler.

Take Metro line 4 (direction Porte d'Orleans) from Gare du Nord to Strasbourg-Saint-Denis. Transfer and take Metro line 8 (direction Balard) to either La Tour Maubourg or Ecole Militaire, whichever is closer to your hotel.

George,

The Metro is definitely the best way to get from Gare du Nord to the Rue Cler area. If you're going to be taking additional trips on the Metro, you may wish to buy a Carnet of ten tickets. It's a good idea to retain your ticket after going through the turnstile, as you'll need it to exit.

The route suggested by Tim is the easiest one, and the one I would choose also. Be sure to note the direction so that you end up at the desired destination.

Good luck and happy travels!

On the Metro you do NOT need to insert your ticket in a turnstile when you exit. However, it's a good idea to keep your ticket until you after you exit because the Metro police will sometimes check to see that people are traveling on a valid ticket. On the RER it IS necessary to insert your ticket in a turnstile when you exit.

Tim, thanks for clarifying that. I had forgotten some of the "fine details". AFAIK, the ticket or Oyster Card is still needed for exit in London?

Using an Oyster or ticket, you need to swipe it on exiting the Tube. On the bus, you swipe it only on entering. If you swipe it on exiting you will be charged twice for the same trip. A bus trip costs about half the amount of a Tube trip.
