On April 22, I'll be traveling from Waal, Germany to Mürren, Switzerland. I have two questions: 1. Will my Eurail pass get me all the way to Mürren, including the final BLM line from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren, without having to purchase any separate tickets? 2. We're in Mürren for three days and we plan to use the BLM and other train/cable-car transportation a few times. E.g. we'll be taking the train up to the Jungfrau and the Schilthorn. Is there a pass we should buy when we get there? Thanks, Mike
Your Eurail pass will not cover you fully to get beyond the Interlaken Ost train station and into Muerren. Your Eurail pass will only cover 25% of the fares beyond Interlaken Ost, into Lauterbrunnen and travel throughout the valley and hillside villages. The 25% limit also applies to the Jungfraujoch and the Schilthorn. I don't think that its good on the postal bus in that area either.
The Schilthorn cable car is closed down for maintenance from 22 April through 26 April, so you will not be able to go up the Schilthorn. You can get to Mürren by the cable car to Grutschalp and train. But you will not be able to go above Mürren. As far as a pass, there is a 3- day Jungfrau Railway pass, but it is not available until May 1. A Half-Fare Card for 120 CHF will get you 50% off everything, but given that you already have 35% coverage with your Eurailpass, it may not be cost effective unless your Eurail pass is a s e l e c t pass and you skip those days.
Lola and Frank, Thanks for the great advice! It sounds like purchasing individual tickets while we're in M?ürren is going to be the best thing for us. I'm disappointed to hear that the Schilthorn cable car is closing the very day we arrive, but knowing that will give us a chance to think about what we'd like to do instead. Thanks again! Mike
Larry, sorry about calling you Frank (where did that come from???). LOL Mike
