Below is my travel schedule in August but it may be adjusted if I am trying to accomplish to much during the time allowed. Amsterdam three nights. Then travel to Berlin for three nights. Travel to Prague for two nights, Salzburg two nights, Munich one night and Frankurt one night. I have been to Munich on several ocassions but do want to show my wife eagles nest and Berchtesgaden. Any suggestions.
There are Eurocity (EC) trains from Berlin to Prague (via Dresden) in 4 hr 40 min. If you book well in advance (up to 92 days) from the Bahn website, you can get €39 Europa-Spezial fares.
Dan, I agree with the others that this is a somewhat "busy" Itinerary, but it should be possible. However, since one of your main plans is to see the Eagle's Nest and Berchtesgaden, I'd suggest skipping Salzburg and adding a night in Munich. Having to pack up and change Hotels for one night is a bit of a nuisance (IMO). If you really want to make a short visit to Salzburg, it's easy to do from Munich. For the trip from Prague to Munich, you could either travel by train or Bus. I don't think the travel time is much different. Regarding your other trips, I travelled Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague last year and each of those trips is a relatively easy 4-6 hours each (depending on which train you choose). Happy travels!
You are going to be doing a lot of traveling, but not much time in some places. Remember that two nights in a location is equal to one full day. You have two places where you will spend two nights (one day) and two one-nighters. You will essentially be just passing through those two places. I think you need to cut something out. How will you be traveling, by train or car?
I totally agree with Andrea.. what seems to look good on paper turns out to be different in reality. I can't suggest what to cut since its personal tastes, but I would cut something for sure. Sounds like you will be doing train travel , Amsterdam to Berlin is about 6 hours and I have seen fares for mid august starting at 50 euros.. not a bad deal , but remember, 6 hours is a big part of your day, so really how much time do you end up with if you start moving alot, trip to Prague, about 4 hours, etc ,, add up all your travel time and see how that looks like! Then remember to add time to get to hotel, check in , leave bags, and then return trip to rail station .. you don't want a tour of europes train stations right?
