Travel in Belgium and Germany

I would welcome suggestions for modest non-hotel accommodations in Ghent, Antwerp, Luxemborg, Trier and Cologne. Does anyone know what kind of public transportation links the Brussels airport to the city center and to Ghent?

Trains leave very frequently from the airport in the direction of Brussels. Its about a 10-15 ride, depending on which station you want to depart to. Likewise, Intercity trains depart about twice an hour in the direction of Ghent from all 3 of Brussels' train stations. The trip lasts about 40 minutes.

About modest non-hotel accomodations in Ghent and Antwerp. Staying with locals is an interesting scheme for hikers and cyclists in Ghent and Antwerp. Not only because of it's nice pricing but also because you get in touch with locals who open their house. The supervising organisation of these homestay approach is called 'Vrienden op de Fiets' http://www.vriendenopdefiets.nl An alternative is to go for one of the b-and-b's in Ghent http://www.bedandbreakfast-gent.be/ or Antwerp
