Travel help in Switzerland

Can someone verify that I am doing this correctly? We wake up in Murren, (Murren BLM) the morning of June 6 and have to travel to catch our Golden Pass reservations. I have VIP seats reserved on June 6 from Zweisimmen to Montreux at 12:26. There are so many transfers, can someone verify at least the departure time from Murren so I know if I have the correct trains? Since I have reservations, I think I would feel better if these were booked and paid for.

Debra, The first part of your journey will be from Mürren to Interlaken Ost, using the local transportation either via the Cable Car / Post Bus from Stechelberg to Lauterbrunnen or the Railway and Cable Car from Mürren to Lauterbrunnen. From Interlaken Ost the journey to Zweisimmen seems to be quite straightforward (there doesn't appear to be many "transfers"). There's a direct train (no changes) departing Interlaken Ost at 09:08, arriving at 10:18, and another departing 09:29 with arrival at 10:56 (one change in Spiez). There's also a departure at 10:30, arrival at 11:56 (one change). The last one mentioned would provide the shortest wait time. With the Swiss trains, I wouldn't have too many concerns about any of them arriving late. I've never seen that happen in Switzerland (but of course it's always possible due to "unforeseen circumstances"). Happy travels!

The Swiss train website shows that you can depart as late as 9:25am on June 6 and make it to Zweisimmen at 11:56 which is 30 minutes before your Golden Pass trains. The next earliest departure to get you there is 8:26 and will get you there at 10:56. You will take the cable way to Gimmelwald, transfer to the cable way down to Stechelberg, jump on the bus to the Lauterbrunnen train station, take the 20 minute train ride on the Jungfraubahn to Interlaken Ost and then transfer to the train to Zweisimmen. The train from Interlaken Ost to Zweisimmen will most likely not be a Golden Pass train but instead will be a Regionale or IC train. But, these trains will get you to Zweisimmen. Lot's of changes but three things you can count on. 1) this will all work a lot smoother that you might imagine, 2) it's a great travel adventure, and, 3) the Swiss trains are extremely punctual. You can see what I see on www.rail.ch. Just put in Murren-LSMS-lsms in the departure window. This is the cable way.

Take your GoldPass reservation printout to the little ticket counter in Mürren and have them print a schedule for your connections. It will detail each train number, track location, change along the way. It's quite common to get those little printouts. Nothing compares to the Swiss Transportation System. It's a well-oiled fine-tuned work of art. You'll be amazed at how everything works just like clockwork. You can even look at the schedule yourself on www.sbb.ch/en where all Swiss Train connections are detailed.

There are two ways to get to Lauterbrunnen from Mürren: (1) the one Larry mentioned, using the cablecar down to Stechelberg via Gimmelwald, and (2) the train from Mürren to Grutschalp, and then down to Lauterbrunnen by cablecar. Sometimes one is faster than the other; it depends on the time of day you depart. I fell a little more secure with the train/cablecar route. But if you haven't taken that cablecar down from Mürren to Gimmelwald to Stechelberg, you should do it at least once. It's quite a thrill. Also, I suggest that rather than counting on others to give you the correct options, you consult the Swiss rail website yourself so you can make informed decisions. www.rail.ch (in English) or www.sbb.ch Put in "Murren" under From and Interlaken Ost" under To. (Or just put in Interlaken and it will ask you if you mean Interlaken Ost; then answer is yes.) It may not show schedules for June 6 yet, and schedules for late April and early May will be adjusted as one cablecar is taken out of service for maintenance. but if June 6 doesn't show up, you can get a good idea of how it works by looking at, say, a Monday in March.

Lola's answer is a good solution as well. With this solution, you skip the bus from Stechelberg to the train station. The cable way from Grutshalp comes down to a stop about 200' from the train station. In fact, the train station is just across the street.
