Our tour will be ending in Vienna and we are wondering what the most inexpensive way to get up to Frankfurt?
Walk.
Ok, seriously, if you can commit to a specific date and train, the German Rail website offers non-refundable Europa-Spezial Österreich fares for as low as €39 per person one way when purchased online.
Lee,I laughed for 5 minutes after reading your WALK response.
If you read this page much you will see that everyone recommends train travel as cheapest. Unless you find a discount airline, but that is rare.
Bus may be cheaper, but hardly anyone recommends that method of travel. Depends on how your body accepts the abuse of a bus ride.
Lee, I too laughed and then had to read the question and answer to my husband because he wanted to know why I was laughing.
On my tour that ended in Vienna, we flew from Vienna to Frankfurt. Our plane was late (Air Berlin) and we missed our Lufthansa flight. Our flight ended up costing us more plus hotel. Neither airline would accept responsibility. So with that in mind, I suggest you give yourself time --- train would be great and cheap.
Happy travels.
To everyone that responded to our question about travel from Vienna to Frankfurt, Thank You! Walking is a great idea; but, time will not allow us to go that way.We are planning on the over night train. Happy Travels!
George, I take it that you are doing Rick's GAS tour. What month are you doing the tour? Also you mentioned taking the night train from Wien to Frankfurt. I am taking the same tour in Sept and plan on taking a night train also. What rate did you end up with or have you booked yet? I can't book until about late June or early July.
