travel from Toledo to Madrid airport.

I plan on ending my trip in Toledo, Spain, since Madrid has a festival the end of that week.

However, my question is how is the best way to leave downtown Toledo and arrive at the Madrid airport for my flight home.

I can't seem to find the information, including when they begin each morning, and I need to know how early to leave Toledo and get to the Madrid airport in time to get through the security lines and not miss my flight home.

I would appreciate any helpful advise.

Thank you,

Virginia

The first train doesn't leave Toledo until 9:25 am, arriving Madrid's Atocha station at 9:55 am. Add, say 45 minutes to cab it to Barajas airport, and considering you must be there two hours before your flight leaves, you'd have to have a flight no earlier than about 12:30 pm. To check schedules, visit http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html. To purchase tickets, you must register first...click on "Tiknet," then, under Sales on the left hand side, click on "Ticket Sales," then, "New Client," and fill out the info. On weekends, these trains are very busy with day trippers going in both directions, so I would sugges that, if you do need a specific train, book it in advance (60 days I believe is the earliest for advance bookings).

Thank you Norm for the information.

I was thinking of taking the bus, having forgotten about the train.

Do you, or anyone else, know when the busses between Toledo and Madrid begin each morning?

Thank you again,

Virginia

There are two or three buses an hour from Toledo to Madrid...the first one at 5:15 am during the week, 6:30 on Saturdays, and 8 am on Sundays. The run takes between and hour and 90 minutes, depending on the route you take. The Toledo bus station can be reached by local buses 5 and 6. In Madrid, they arrive at the Mendez Alvaro bus station, in the southeast corner of the city (a little farther out than the Atocha train station.) A cab from there....probably about 30 Euro. The metro from Mendez Alvaro requires two changes to get to the airport....probably 45 minutes. You can purchase your tickets when you arrive in Toledo...they're not available on line for advance purchase. You can check the schedules at http://www.continental-auto.es/index.do. Fares are cheap, as they are across the Spanish bus system...4.40 Euro one way. Just remember that bus tickets have assigned seats!
