One way or round trip? We did it one way, reverse direction. Starting from Dinan, we stopped to take pictures of MSM (we had visited the evening before), visited the tapestry museum in Bayeux (superb, don't miss it!), went to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery ( just to get a sense of the place, we are not major WWII buffs), then drove to Les Andeleys for the night (this town is beautifully sited on a curve of the Seine, has an excellent ruined castle, and is about twenty miles from Giverney). We went to Giverney first thing the next morning. It was a long day, but we don't go to Europe with the idea of having a relaxing vacation-for that we go to Yosemite or Mendocino.

Sheila:
My wife and I are scheduled for a day trip from Paris to Normandy near the end of April. Granted it is a long day, but we don't like to pack and unpack any more than necessary and preferred staying in Paris rather than lodging in Normandy. We take the 7:07 train from St. Lazare to Carentan where we meet Ellwood (D-Day Battle Tours) at the train station for an 8-1/2 hour tour. The tour will visit the Airborne Museum, Ste. Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, La Cambe German Military Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the US National Cemetery and include lunch. We will be dropped off at the Carentan station with time for a light dinner and take the 19:42 train back to Paris arriving St Lazare 22:16. This is the only train-tour combination that we could make work for a day trip from Paris.
