Travel from Nice to Venice on the train

It is an 8 hour trip I believe from nice to Venice,. Is it best to take the night train and save a day for sightseeing and do you have to booke for the overnight trains? Thanks

The direct night train leaves Nice Ville at 21:07 and arrives at Venezia Santa Lucia at 07:36. Besides having more daylight hours for sightseeing, you save the cost of a night in a hotel. Yes, you need to book well in advance. Night trains on popular routes often sell out. You can book up to 90 days in advance at www.sncf.com. If you book early enough, you may be able to get a discounted fare.
