Hi, we are trying to figure out the best way to get from Munich to Paris this summer. We would ideally like to arrive in Paris relatively early in the evening, as we will be heading directly to our hotel in Versailles. We have looked at flights, but only see them going to ORY? I have only experienced CDG, is ORY much different? Is it better to take a flight or train? We won't have a europass, so the train tickets are looking a little out of our price range. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you so much in advance
Check out Airberlin. They have flights to both CDG and ORY I think.
Yes, we've seen one flight they have to ORY but it appears they don't have one going to CDG on the day we want to leave.
If you book well in advance (up to 92 days allowed) on the German Rail site, you can get a Europa-Spezial Frankreich fare as low as €49.00 for certain departure times and routes. You'll need to make one connection in either Stuttgart or Mannheim. Depart at 06:32, 10:28, or 14:28.
ORY is older and smaller than CDG. I've never used it, but it's supposed to be easier to manage than CDG, and it's closer to central Paris. To Versailles, it would be easier, since both are on RER line C (just be sure you get on the correct branch). If your goal is to go right to Versailles, either airport should work fine.
Both Lufthansa and Air France fly from Munich directly to Charles de Gaulle. From downtown Munich out to the airport it can easily take an hour. Then you'll have to be at the airport at least one hour prior to departure. Then your flight takes 1:40 hrs. After landing it takes you at least another 40 minutes until you've collected your luggage and are ready to leave the airport. And then it's what, another hour into the city? That's a total journey time of at least 5:30 hours... The train journey starts in the heart of Munich and ends at Paris Est station. It's 6 hours and 10 minutes in total and you can just sit, relax, surf the Internet, enjoy the scenery and talk to all kinds of people...
