Travel from Madrid to Dordogne area question

Our itinerary for next March is Madrid-Dordogne-Loire-Paris. After 5 days in Madrid I was thinking of using Easy Jet or some other carrier to get to Toulouse (closest I could find to Dordogne), renting a car & driving to the Dordogne for 3 days, driving to Loire for 2 days, drop the car in Blois maybe & then taking high speed train to Paris. Does this sound feasible & the most efficient use of time to anyone? Suggestions welcome.

Great idea except you'll skip Chartres that way. Keep the car and dump it on the outskirts of Paris. Tell me which company and I'll give you an idea of what drop spot would work best.

Hmmm... forgot about Chartres. So little time & so much to see. Can you recommend a good car rental place that I can do the drop off somewhere?

It looks like if you use Sixt, you can drop it in Paris at Ave de Saxe. That makes it an unconfusing shot off the Peripherique through a part of the city without the maddening traffic. The drop location is surrounded by metro stops.

Also, using Sixt, you can drop at Chartres and take the train in, but the drop point is way the hell and gone (about a mile and it's uphill) from the cathedral and in the exact opposite direction from where the train stations is. If you select this option, you'd probably want to take a taxi or bus (I don't know how to do it) from the car place to the cathedral and walk five minutes to the train station when you're done.

If you use Alamo and drop in Paris, you won't enjoy where you have to drive.

Sixt and Alamo where the only options I could find using Kayak.com. If you have other ideas, I'll be happy to chip in.

Dot, we were in France October 2008 and rented from AutoEurope. We dropped the car in Chartes and took the train into Paris. They even came and picked up the car at our hotel!! Chartes a must see for the cathedral. Take the tour they offer from Malcolm Miller.

Autoeurope does offer a central Chartres drop off. The only thing I saw on a dummy run was that they'd have to 'get back to you' with fees and possibility of dropping at a location different from the pick up. I've never done this with them, so have no idea what's involved. The rate, at first blush, does look better, however.
