is it worth the trouble getting to Nice to fly back to WA or would a 1 week trip be better to just stay in the Ticino area of Switzerland and fly home from Zurich which is where I will start?

Its not clear from this thread when you are going - but I will presume Summer... If you want calanques, socca, the Riviera experience, playing on Nice's beaches or those of towns either side, if you want perfume factory tours and French hill towns or Monaco, I'd say go to Nice. If you'd rather have alpine vistas, southern Swiss/norther Italian ambiance, dry landscapes, magnificent lakes, then I'd say Ticino. I suppose it really depends on you. They are chalk and cheese.

sorry - we are going the week prior to Easter -
I have no idea what the weather is like in either Nice or Ticino during that time.
