We arrive in FRA around 2:00pm and would like to travel 1-2 hours towards Switzerland that day. Looking for guidance on transportation (car rental vs train) and where would be an enjoyable place to stopover. Business conference in Geneva, with two days/two nights on our own prior to start of conference. Someone suggest Frieburg, Germany the 1st night and Murten the 2nd night? Dale
Dale, Which town to stop in first after arrival will depend on how long you want to spend on a train after a long international flight? Freiburg would be one option, as it's only a few hours by train from Frankfurt Airport (some trains have a change in Mannheim). You could also consider Baden-Baden. Another option I'd consider would be to spend a bit longer on the arrival day, and stop in Lucerne for two nights. The trip would be longer though (4H:11M from FRA) and you'd arrive in the evening, but that would be a good intermediate point on the way to Geneva. Happy travels!
I vote for Heidelberg or Strasbourg. Take the train to either.
No need for a car since there are several good places to stop via train to Geneva. Freiburg and
Heidelberg are both good choices for the first night and Lucerne is an excellent choice for the 2nd. If you're not that familiar with Freiburg, the city has one of the best web sites you'll ever see: http://www.freiburg.de
