Travel from CDG Paris to Poitiers

There is a TGV train from CDG to Poitiers, but it is in the afternoon, and our plane arrives at CDG in the early morning. Given that we are seniors with luggage, are there alternatives to waiting at the airport, for a train to Poitiers? Thanks Jay

Hi Jay,

There are 2-3 trains departing most hours from other train stations in Paris and going to Poitiers. The problem is weighing how much time you will need to get to the other train station, and the cost involved if you take something like a taxi.

The majority of the trains depart from Paris Montparnasse and most are TGVs and are direct. You can take a look at all the schedules on the Deutsche Bahn website, as it is excellent with showing schedules.

I guess the big question is: how early will you be arriving in the morning? The train you were referring to departs (I believe) around 15:00.

You could check the TGV schedules from Paris to Poitiers for earlier departures and go into the city, but that seems a great runaround when you have just arrived on a long-haul flight. Perhaps you could book a dayroom at the Ibis hotel at CDG (there are 3) and have a good rest, a shower & lunch before you board the train to Poitiers. If you book more than 30 days ahead there is a discounted rate. Look for "Happy 30" on the Ibis website.

If you decide to go into Paris and take a TGV from Gare Montparnasse, there is an easy way for you to make the transfer even if you have a fair amount of luggage. Air France coach (highway bus) #4 goes directly from CDG to Gare de Lyon and then to Gare Montparnasse. The driver will put your bags in the luggage bay. The coaches run every 30 minutes and the fare is €16.50.

If you're packing light enough to easily schlep your own luggage, then you could take the RER B to Denfert-Rochereau, transfer to Metro line 6, and take it to Montparnasse-Bienvenue. The fare is €8.60. To see how to do this, go to www.parisbytrain.com.
