We have 5 people in our group and plan to visit Berlin and Munich in early April. We will fly from US to Berlin and stay there for 2 days then travel to Munich after that. We would like to hear your advice if we better take the train or rent to a car to go from Berlin to Munich. Please let us know if there is any bus tour to Munich that we can take from Berlin and how is the cost in comparison. Thanks a lot for your assistance.
If you really just want to get from Berlin to Munich, and don't want to explore the area in between, then the train will be the easiest. Go here to see the schedules and fares http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en{Edit: However, there is much to see in between, if you had a car, as explained by Andreas' suggestions, he is one of our German resident specialists and we benefit from his local knwowledge.}
Mai,
Since it appears that you want to go directly from Berlin to Munich, my advice would be one of the high speed trains. You'll still see lots of spectacular scenery, and it's really the quickest and most direct method.
I also agree with the others in that two days isn't long enough for Berlin. However, you haven't indicated how long your trip is, what the goals of the trip are, or what other sights you might want to see while you're in Germany.
Happy travels!
You'd need at least three days to explore Berlin and Potsdam (which is a must-see in my opinion). If you had a car you could visit Wittenberg, the town where Martin Luther invented protestantism, Leipzig, Erfurt, Bamberg (another must-see IMO), Nuremberg etc. Leipzig or Nuremberg can also be visited if traveling by train.
I heartily agree with Andreas. Two days in Berlin is not enough, especially considering the time lost getting to/from the airport, checking in/out etc.
I also agree that driving to Munich will give you the opportunity to see alot of spectacular things along the way.
