Travel Dordogne Region

I will be traveling with a tour group to the Dordogne area in early Sept and will be going to Les Eyzies, Bardenat, La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Sarlat. I would like to add a 2 to 3 days to my trip to discover other places on my own. I was thinking of either Bordeaux or Toulouse but not sure which. I am looking for suggestions on where to spend 2 days in the area. I will be either arriving or departing from Bordeaux by plane and would like to make either my arrival or departure by plane from Paris so that I can take the train.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I think you could spend two more days in the region, with a car, perhaps working your way towards Toulouse. There's the Lot valley (St Cirq, Peche Merle, Cahors), Albi, and many small and charming town in between. Or even just stay along the Dordogne: you are bound to learn of things to see that are not on your tour. I don't get how Paris fits in to this trip. Is there additional time, beyond these 2 days, that you plan to spend there? You could make the case for adding those 2 spare days to Paris. I do not see the sense of rushing back to Paris just to ride a train and catch a plane. Better to fly home from Toulouse in that case.

Thanks so much for the feedback. The only reason I was going to take the train to Paris was so that I could catch a direct flight home rather than having to change planes. But it does make more sense to fly from Toulouse if I am going to head that way. I will definitely consider that as an option.

I'm not clear how Bordeaux fits into your trip, but if you're flying in or out of the city, it's worth a day or 2 stay. We just spent a day there on our way back to Paris, and loved it. If you do want to stay there, check out Hotel des Voyageurs.

I have the option to fly in and out of Bordeaux or Toulouse but couldn't decide which. My other option would be to take the train to Paris and fly direct from there. Since there is so much more I would like to see in the region I think I will fly out of one of these rather than spend the time on a train to Paris. Thank you for the suggestion and the hotel referal. I will definitely look it up.
