Hi , we will be in paris for 3 days. Do we need to buy cards like the corresponding Oyster card that London has? Thanks.
Hi Sally, I would buy a carnet (book) of 10 metro tickets. Thats the cheapest.
Bon sejour
Hi Kathyrn,
Thanks for your reply. WE will buy the carnet of 10 metro tickets as you advise. I have a question though, if we need to take the bus, we just have to pay cash then right? Rick mentioned about a bus # that pass thru most tourist site. I can't remenber the # - maybe #9?
No, the carnet tickets are used on both Metro and buses, although if you switch from Metro to bus or vice-versa you will have to use a new ticket.
Sally, the bus No. 69 is the good route you were referring to, and also No. 42.
You can also use a carnet ticket for the funicular up to Montmartre to save having to hump the hill.
Is a carnet ticket good for all day on the Metro? I thought it was for one ride.

A "carnet" is a package of 10 single-use metro tickets. Each ticket is only good for one journey...it's not a day pass.
You can buy a day pass if you think it will be economical. It is called a one day Mobilis and last time I checked it was under 6 euro.
Yes, do purchase a carnet (ten tickets good for ten rides). It worked out to be the most economical for us. If I remember correctly, you need to have completed your journey with one ticket in 1.5 hours and you can do as many underground transfers as you would like within that time frame. Hold on to your ticket once you use it because every once in a while there are subway workers who check tickets to make sure you have paid and you want that proof in order not to pay a fine (this happened to us once). Just discard it once you exist the system. As previously mentioned, you cannot use your ticket to transfer from metro to bus, but you can use a separate ticket from the carnet on the buses.
There was a fare increase on 1 July. A ten-ticket carnet now costs €12.00. A one day, zone 1-2 Mobilis pass now costs €6.10.
The main point is that the day pass compared to a carnet is only worth getting if you expect to make more than five one-way journeys in a day, which is less good value than in many cities.
With 4 of us travelling, the carnet was a best option. We didn't have to keep refilling 4 cards, just kept buy more individual tickets. Just remember that Metro tickets can't be used on RER trains. So if you are travelling to-from CDG or Versailles, you have to buy a separate ticket. Also note that the automated ticket machines don't take American credit cards, but you can buy a canet at a ticket window with a credit card.
Can the carnet ticket be use also for the Batobus too? thanks
While t+ tickets from a carnet cannot be used on the RER between CDG (zone 5) or Versailles (zone 4) and Paris, they can be used on the RER in zone 1 (central Paris). With one ticket you can freely transfer between the metro and RER in central Paris until you exit the system.
Tickets from carnets are not good on the Batobus. A one day pass costs 13 EUR.
