I would like to do a travel blog for my 2 week vacation this year. I would like to be able to log on in the evenings and type the days adventures and upload my photos. I need something easy to use. I want my friends to be able to find my blog easily. I am not too concerned about privacy. My friends don't have to be able to comment, although it might be nice. I don't mind paying a small fee. And last of all, I want to be able to save this as my own diary of my trip once I am home. Is this asking too much? What do you recommend?
Blogger is pretty easy to use, has lots of features, and is free.
Set it up before you go and email the url to your friends.
I second blogger. That's what I use and it's great! And it's free and it meets all your requirements, I think. I absolutely love going back and reading about a day of a past trip and re-living it. And I know my friends and family (especially my parents) love being able to follow along
This is a question that has come up a few times here on the forum and it seems everyone has their favorite, ususally whatever they themselves use. Not sure how each of them compare with ease of use or special features.
Personally, I like blogspot. It set up in 3 steps, photos are easy to upload, and it is free.
I used blogspot also. So easy and free. Emailed pics right from my phone.
yes, it is a personal preference question. i use blogger and wordpress, and i like them both. my main blog is on wordpress, and i've found it very easy to use. basically if you can type a message on this board, you can create a wordpress blog. and clearly you can do that! ;-)
this is what mine looks like:
www.elbodans.wordpress.com
also--you'll note the oddness of my url--the 'elbodans' part. that's an example of a poorly chosen url (and you can't change it once it is set); i selected it because it is my email address, so all of my friends and family found me easily, but posting it other places (like on here, for example) is a bit strange. so i'd suggest something closer to the title of your blog like 'www.terriineurope.wordpress.com' (well, that looks bad with the double i in the middle, but you know what i mean!). best of luck to you! i've rambled on and on on these boards about the fulfilling nature of blogging--i hope you feel the same way!
I like travelpod.com It is very easy to use.
Blogspot is Blogger. They are the same thing.
You might also want to check out WordPress.
I'm a big fan of Travbuddy.com
I used www.ontheroad.to It's free - I used the iPhone app to upload posts (via wifi), but you can also email to it and it posts on the site for you. You can plot your itinerary ahead of time on a map. Very easy to use and has a number of pre-set formats that look nice.
I'd recommend setting it up with a password (your friends enter it when viewing the blog) so it doesn't show up in Google searches.
Does anyone know if travbuddy.com can be password protected?
Are there limits to the number of photos that can be uploaded to the other blog options?
I've used blogger for a couple of years. I LOVE everything Google. Even so, I recently switched to Wordpress (wordpress.com is free, wordpress.org is not). I use the free version. The reason I switched is that wordpress has an iPhone app so that I can update my blog on the go - pictures AND text. I wasn't able to type on blogger with the iPhone. I'm finding I actually like Wordpress better the more I use it. It has more features and gives you stats.
But both are equally easy to set up and use.
