We will be in France this summer, and I am looking for suggestions for how to meander from Marseille to Bordeaux. We will be leaving Marseille the morning of July 9th, and need to be in Bordeaux by the evening of July 13th. We are open to either train, car, or a combination. Thank you!

I think the key here is "7-year-old!" Since you indicate that a car is an option, I would vote for the car. You'll have maximum mobility, and privacy in the case of meltdowns. It can be unpleasant to be on a train - with many staring, reproving eyes - when your beloved child melts down and starts behaving badly. A sensible driving route will take you through or by Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, Carcassonne, Toulouse.... so there are plenty of places to turn off, spend the night, and see the sights.
