Transportation to/from Kutna Hora

I'm planning a day trip from Prague to Kutna Hora for Oct 2011. After reading Rick's book, I'm still a little bit confused regarding transportation. My goal is to see the Ossuary in Sedlec and St. Barbara cathedral. My understanding is I need to catch a direct train from Prague to Kutna Hora main station, which in Sedlec. Then walk from the station to the ossuary. According to Rick's book, the ossuary runs shuttle bus to St. Barbara cathedral. After I'm done with sightseeing in Kutna Hora, how do I get back to the train station in Sedlec, is there a bus from downtown Kutna Hora to Sedlec station?

Thanks, Angela. It's good to know there is a train runs between Sedlec and Kutna Hora. I don't mind walking but just in case bad weather, we can take a train.

Hi Holly, Below is a link to a thread from April where I tried (about 7 posts down) to clarify the transportation situation between Prague and Kutna Hora. I hope it doesn't add to the confusion, as my post isn't very succinct! http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/47080/2-days-in-prague.html I wanted to add that there IS a shuttle bus between the ossuary and St. Barbara, but I believe it is seasonal, as it was not running in March when we were there (this past year). You may want to try to dig around to see if it will be running in October, too. Good luck!

The only thing I will add is that the only direct connections from Praha hl.n. to Kutna Hora Sedlec I cound find on the Czech Rail website are buses. There are some rail connections that go from Praha hl.n. to the main station, Kutna Hora hl.n. and then a connecting train (4 min) to Sedlec.

We did this day trip this summer. Buy a ticket at Prague hl.n, and get it to cover the entire town. Get off at first stop, Sedlec, which is the main station. AS others said, about a 10 minute walk to the ossuary. Their van requires at least 3, IIRC, in order to run. We walked, about 25 minutes. Not terribly attractive for the first part (classic communist suburb) but then you hit town and it's great. We were going to the silver mine rather than Saint Barbara's. They are all really close to each other. if you have time, dd the silver mine if you can get the English tour. It is no moire than a 10 minute walk back to the Kutna Hora Mesto station for the short shuttle back to Sedlec (sorry, since we had excess time I did not pay attention to the specific times!). They have this timed so the trains connect both ways, either coming in to Sedlec from Prague, or from Mesto to Sedlec. By buying the complete ticket you can even walk back to Sedlec from the ossuary and take the shuttle line down to Mesto, but it does not save that much additional walking. By the way, the train is direct from Prague, there is no change in Kolin. The tickets were unbelievably inexpensive. For the 2 of us, one way 97 kc, second ticket bought together was 50% discount, and round-trip bought on same ticket was another 10% discount. 277kc total, or about $13.60 at the time. By way of comparison, to take the commuter train from our house just outside Philadelphia to the airport, maybe 15 miles, is $9 each one way!

Google "Day tours Prague Kutna Hora". There is information on doing it yourself and many tour options. the Viator site offers a 5 hour tour to Kutna Hora and Sedlec for $55.00 per person.
