Transportation Normandy to Bruges

A helpful traveler told us to drive to Lille from Normandy area (WWII) and now I read that there is a Lille Flanders and another Lille...is there more than one Lille train station? May we drop off our rental car there? I know we cannot reserve yet. THANKS~! Any suggestions of a reasonable place to stay in the Dordogne area are welcome. We are taking a "zoom" trip through France from the Riviera to Normandy in five days!

Yes, there are two train stations in Lille: Lille Europe and Lille Flandres. The Auto Europe site lists outlets at both stations. All trains to Bruges depart from Lille Flandres. For most departure times you will need to make a connection in Kortrijk. There is open seating on these trains and no reservations are possible. Buy your tickets at the station. They will be good on any train.

following on the most excellent advice previously given - its not very far between the two stations. Its a bit of a walk but not too far. If you are arriving in Lille from Paris it will almost certainly be at Lille Europe. If arriving at Lille by car, there is quite a nest of motorways to negotiate. I haven't found driving into Lille particularly easy so I prefer (when I tried - I don't particulary like Lille (nothing bad, I just have yet to see anything good) so I don't go into the centre often even though I sleep in the outskirts several times each year) to use the Métro. Lille has lots of quite small roads and navigation is non-trivial.

Wow...I guess there is no other station enroute to Brugge after leaving Normandy? I heard the tracks between Paris and Normandy will be torn up in July (adding time..unless the hassle of Lille is too much!) and we will be traveling that route Sept. 21st.

We are taking a "zoom" trip through France from the Riviera to Normandy in five days! A zoom trip is right! I hope you have more than one driver. Are you aware that you are talking about over 2,000 km and over 24 hours of non-stop driving in your 5 days? Not counting any pee breaks, eating, or side trips? Are you planning on actually getting out of the car and seeing any of the country you're driving through?

wow. How wouldyou suggest going from Cannes to Oradour (hopefully seeing some of the Dordogne area) and thence to Normandy? We would fly from Normandy to Bruges but there are not many choices...and we do not want the car in Belgium, but feel we need it in Normandy. Only one driver counts....
