Transportation from st. Remy to aix

We are trying to get from st. Remy to aix. We do not have a car. What do you recommend?

There is a bus to Avignon in season, and from there you can catch a train to Aix. Or to Arles, with several trains and buses to get to Aix. But honestly I can't recommend this just to visit Aix. You have at least 3 bus rides and one train ride each way.

@Adam: What is the "season" for buses from St. Remy to Avignon? Thanks.

@Janet: I do not exactly know, though it is a fair question. I was qualifying my answer because of how suprised we were, once upon a time, to discover that some bus routes out of Arles ceased operation on the Day of the Dead (Nov 1). It is possible that some service continues St Remy - Avignon year round. If it is critical I'd call the TI in Avignon and ask.

The website below will show you point-to-point bus connections for most of Provence, including St. Remy and Aix en Provence. As Adam mentioned and as you will see, you'll be faced with multiple transfers. Click on the British flag logo in the upper right for English. http://www.lepilote.com/index.asp

The web site that Tom suggests is very interesting, but does not include the route that is probably the quickest, which is via Avignon. The bus line it uses instead, to get to Arles, is the same one that we were surprised to find stopped running in November. But that was years ago and the winter schedule may have changed.

Thanks, all. I remember how surprised we were to find in Italy that Easter Monday was a holiday and we couldn't get any public transportation out of the small town where we were staying. (Fortunately, we were able to extend our lodging by a day on a "no reservations" trip.)
