Six of us are travelling from Rothenburg to Mainz on July 11 and we are wondering what the easiest most direct means of transport will be. We are assuming that we couldn't rent a car in Rothenburg.

Get train schedules from the German Rail (Bahn) website. Almost any train schedule will have you going from Rothenburg to Würzburg by regional trains with a change in Steinach. from Würzurg you can go direct by Intercity (IC) train to Mainz. That connection takes just over 3 hours, and with advance purchase from the Bahn will cost €79,20 (€13.20/p).
