transportation from London airport to Southampton Cruise Port

We are taking a cruise from Southampton. Any suggestions on how to get to the cruise port from the airport. We haven't made our airline reservations yet, so not sure if we'll be coming from Heathrow or Gatwick. Open to all suggestions.

National Express coaches leave from both airports to S'hampton, and then a short taxi ride to the docks. Google Heathrow to Southampton and/or Gatwick to Southamptom for all your options. I have used a private transfer from Heathrow to the dock when we were a party of 4 and it certainly made life easy.

If it's Gatwick then there is a direct train at 9 minutes past every hour from the railway station at the airport to Southampton Central. Off-peak fare is £14.80, it takes just under 2 hours. All the Southampton dock gates are within about a mile of Southampton Central station, and there is a taxi rank outside. The train is quicker, more frequent and a bit cheaper than the National Express coach from Gatwick. Heathrow is a bit more tricky, due to the lack of a main line railway station there. Norma's suggestion of a coach is probably the easiest. Otherwise it means going into London and catching a train from Waterloo station, direct to Southampton Central, 3 times per hour, 90 minute journey, about £40 off-peak, or getting the RailAir coach to Reading station and a train from there. For all rail journey planning see www.nationalrail.co.uk When using the coach journey planner on www.nationalexpress.co.uk watch out for changes at Victoria Coach Station, which is in central London, and if you are starting outside London then that's usually the long way round...
