Transportation from CDG to Hotel du Cadran in Paris

I am trying to find the best way to get fro the CDG airport to the Hotel du Cadran in Paris (located by the Eiffel Tower). I am ok with learning how to use public transportation such as the RER but am not familiar with it as this is my first trip to Paris. I know a taxi is always an option but it seems like a more expensive option. Any RER routing help would be appreciated or any other options too.

I've found this site invaluable! http://www.ratp.fr/itineraires/en/ratp/recherche-avancee If you know the address of the hotel or the metro station closest to your hotel, you can enter it in the "To" slot and enter "Aeroport Charles De Gaulle 2 Tgv (RER), Tremblay-en-France" in the "From" slot. This will give you step by step directions from CDG to your hotel. It's also good to use to get from your hotel to sites you want to see while in Paris. Happy planning!

That is wonderful information Dawn. The next question would be what type of ticket are there and which are advisable for getting around Paris? We will be there 3 days. If there is a good link for that information, it would be greatly appreciated.

I stayed at the Hotel Du Cadran last month. I arrived in Paris from Switzerland, and departed back to the US out of CDG. What I did was take a taxi to Gare Du Nord station, and from there catch the RER direct to CDG. Taking the metro from École Militaire (near the Cadran) would have involved two changes on the metro, and would have been a hassle with bags. The taxi fare in non rush-hour traffic was just over 15 euros. So my recommendation is to do that in reverse.

It seems like the best ticket deal is to buy a "ten-ticket carnet". We're going to Paris in November for the first time and I've been reading all kinds of helpful posts on this board. This is what someone else wrote about the carnet tickets: "You and your travel partner can share the tickets from a ten-ticket carnet (€12.70). Each ticket will be good anywhere the metro goes (some lines end in zone 3) and on the RER in zone 1 (all of central Paris). Each ticket provides unlimited transfers until you exit the system. Each ticket provides for bus transfers up to 90 minutes after boarding the first bus. However, you cannot transfer between metro and bus on one ticket" Also, someone mentioned the website www.parisbytrain.com which is a user friendly site (with pictures!) of what to expect at the metro and train stations and how to purchase tickets. Very cool. Good luck!

I was also looking at purchasing a carnet of tickets but am getting confused because I am seeing that the rate for using the RER to get to the hotel is approximately 8.50 (as advertised on their website). I don't know if this is just when purchased alone but it seems steep to pay this per person when you can get a carnet cheaper.

While tickets from carnets are good anywhere the Metro goes, on the RER they're only good in zone 1 (all of central Paris). CDG is in zone 5. A single ticket from CDG to central Paris costs €9.25 and includes unlimited transfers to other RER lines and/or Metro lines until you exit the system. The closest Metro station to your hotel is Ecole Militaire. The best route would be to take the RER B to Gare du Nord, Metro line 4 to Strasbourg - Saint-Denis, and Metro line 8 to Ecole Militaire. For a zoomable map of the RER and Metro system, go here: http://tinyurl.com/6xmvms4. An alternate route would be to take the Roissybus non-stop from CDG to Opera and a short taxi ride from there to your hotel. The fare for the Roissybus is €10.00.

Hope someone can verify and support or shoot this idea down as needed...
If Kim were to take a bus, would the Air France bus to Les Invalids be easier for her, if her hotel is at Ecole Militaire? Air France does have a bus depot at Les Invalids, right next to the Eiffle Tower.

Taking the Air France bus won't work. No Air France bus goes from CDG to Invalides. Bus #1 runs between Orly and Invalides.

Do not use PARISSHUTTLE.COM. I waited over an hour with 2 small children at the designated pickup site (at CDG) and they never showed up. They wouldn't answer their phone and we ended up taking a taxi. I had booked a roundtrip shuttle so they did pick us up for the return, but dropped us off in the wrong area of the airport and we had to take a bus. Thankfully we had enough time. They charged my credit card ahead of time, as advertised, but have so far ignored by requests to refund my money for the first half of the trip. What a sham!

Thanks for all the assistance. We will take either Michael or Tim's routes based upon how much we decide we want to transfer luggage. It looks like the best ticket option is to buy a direct ticket and get to the hotel and then decide whether a carnet of tickets or the Paris Visite card will be the best option for the rest of the trip. If this is incorrect, please set me straight.

we stayed at the hotel du cadran last year in August. Kim, when you arrive in CDG. go to the tourist information booth. you can buy ur RER ticket from CDG to central paris, also the carnet package there. It was a brainless task to get from CDG to the hotel. You can take RER with ur carnet in zone1, like the other people said. The only thing I must say is, pay attention to the RER C, especially when you are jet lagged, the direction is a bit confusing at first but you will get used to it. If you realized you hop on the train going towards the wrong direction, it's easy to hop off and hop back on the right train. Carnet is the way to go. especially if it's only for 3 days. the two of us we went through 1 package of carnet for the 5 days we were there. but we also walked a lot.
