Transportation from CDG airport to Hotel in Paris

Hi, for first timer, what is the better way to get to the hotel booked in Paris from CDG airport for two people? (in terms of cheapest price and the safest way) thanks in advance.

I'm a huge fan of the Metro. I've been in many subways all over the States and Europe and I think the Paris Metro is by far the best.

If you are a light packer it's easy to take the Metro. It's the cheapest option, it's fast (no traffic to deal with!), and you only wait a few minutes for a train.

I am a young woman and I lived outside Paris for a while - I took the Metro everywhere, at all hours of the day, and nothing ever happened to me. I think if you're sensible, it's pretty safe.

For the most comprehensive list of ways to get from CDG to Paris, google this: Robespierre's CDG to Paris Guide. Print it all out, including maps and you are all set. I am pleased to say that the cheapest method, RATP bus 350 or 351, was my suggestion which Robespierre added to his guide. Who is Robespierre? I have no idea.

Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre (6 May 1758 – 28 July 1794) is one of the best-known and influential figures of the French Revolution. He largely dominated the Committee of Public Safety and was instrumental in the period of the Revolution commonly known as the Reign of Terror that ended with his arrest and execution in 1794. He lost his head at the same blade as Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

So, the old devil has come back to life as an American who posts on travel boards. The French Revolution, eh? Never heard of it.

If you are adventurous, you can probably take the metro/RER (train)/bus and have a tremendous sense of accomplishment. I myself am not up for a sense of accomplishment upon arriving after a cross Atlantic flight. YOu might consider taking a taxi or shuttle upon arrival, but perhaps use public transportation when you return to CDG. By then, you would more savvy about the metro/bus connection, reading the map, buying tickets, etc, and you'll feel more comfortable with the whole system.

We've been to Paris before, and we just returned from a trip. We actually did the reverse of what I'm suggesting. We took a metro from a large railroad station to our hotel, then took a shuttle back to CDG for our return home.

The airport shuttle service had a clean, ON TIME, 7 passenger van, both dispatcher and driver spoke English (if you speak French than this will not matter to you.)

Also, you might want to contact your hotel and ask for a suggestion, especially if you wish to take a shuttle. They should also be able to tell you the approximate cost of a taxi ride, which for 2 may be similarly price for 2 seats on a shuttle.

Jenny,

It would help to know which area of Paris your Hotel is located in?

Two options you could consider are the Roissy Bus from the airport to the Opera Garnier, and then Metro to the area of your Hotel; OR use RER "B" to Gare du Nord and then Paris Metro to your Hotel.

When are you heading to Paris? I'll also be there in a month or so, but haven't decided which option to use (will probably depend on how tired I am after the flights!).

Happy travels!

Bonjour Jenny,
I have taken multiple routes, shuttle, taxi, RER Line B (Runs every 15 min), never the bus to Opera... As others have said the RER to gare du nord is the cheapest I've taken. This gets you to one of the main train stations. The RER is like a main artery compared to the metro system. The trains on the RER have fewer stops and travel greater distances at a higher speed. From here you can get anywhere on the metro system. I would take this route if you are traveling light and are comfortable navigating with a subway map. I usually stay on Rue Cler (see ricks book) near the Eiffel Tower. Another option would be the Airport Shuttle. The shuttle takes a while because it stops everywhere but it drops you right at your hotel and if you are not traveling light this or a taxi might be the way. I think the taxi was the most expensive. 50-60 euro as I recall, check ricks book for prices.
