Taking the boat ride from St. Goar to Bacharach, and am wondering what transportation there is to return to St. Goar. We were only able to get our hands on an old copy of a guidebook that mentioned something about a milk train... but I don't know if we can rely on that being accurate. Appreciate any help we can get.
Thank you.
There's a regular commuter train... how often it runs, I'm not sure, but I would guess at least once an hour.
There is one train per hour, occasionally another one between the hourly trains. It takes 10 min and costs €3,30 per person. See the German Rail website for schedules, use "St Goar" (no period) for St. Goar. BTW, the Rhein flows NW, from Bacharach to St. Goar, and the current is strong. Down the river, from Bacharach to St. Goar takes 40 min. Up the river, from St. Goar to Bacharach takes 70 min. I made the mistake of going St. Goar to Bacharach, and it was excruciatingly slow. If I ever do it again, I'll take the train to Bacharach and the boat back.
Thank you so much.
Appreciate it.
Joyce, As the others have mentioned, there are frequent trains so you'll have no problems getting back to St. Goar. I did the boat trip in both directions last year, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't mind the longer trip on the return to Bacharach, as I was busy with photos and visiting with other travellers. Happy travels!
I also remember the train. It was certainly fine. But the boat ride from Bacharach back to St. Goar was so much better. I don't remember any prices but you can't go wrong with the boat.
Thank you everyone. I think you have all changed my mind, and we'll reverse it. lol
Thank you again
