transportation Caen to Bruges

We will have a car in Normandy in mid-September; we know the RR tracks are having renovations to Paris beginning in July; we do not need to go to Paris; we know we must drop the car off in France to save money. What is the best way to get to Bruges from Normandy? Drive to Lille (two stations?? Five or six hours?) Or bite the bullet and train it via Paris?

We did the opposite this past spring. We took the train from Bruges to Lille (Lille Flanders station). There is one train that is direct - others require one change. There are several car rental agencies at the train station. We picked up a car and drove to Honfleur. It was about a 3 hour drive (I think) on great roads with lovely scenery. The only warning is to have toll money. If you don't have one of the "chip cards", your credit card will not work in their toll machines. Have plenty of euros on hand and make sure you don't get in the credit card line. Enjoy your trip - we loved both Normandy and Bruges!

Excellent advice! I love hearing the drive is somewhat entertaining itself!!!
